Recently Don’s Throwing Tall students had a Raku firing down at the Morean Clay Studio. Students were allowed to each pick a couple of their favorite pieces each for the firing. Using a propane tank, the outdoor kiln is heated with the glazed pieces inside. When the pieces are glowing orange the pieces are quickly pulled from the kiln by lifting the top.
The almost molten pieces are then quickly picked up with long tongs and moved to metal garbage cans with newspaper inside and lids are placed on the cans. After around 10-15 minutes, the cans are sprayed with water to quickly cool them down and the pieces are removed to be admired!
